SILESIAN LOGISTIC CLUSTER

ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE AND RAILWAYS IN SILESIA

Silesia region is a significant hub of roads and railways, a large area of trade, significant for transit both on national and international levels. The area of the region, in particular the major cities of the Silesian Agglomeration, is crossed by the key railway lines, providing national and international connections.

The region is located at the intersection of the Trans-European transport routes, both motorway corridors (A1, A4) and railways (tracks E30 and E65, section Gdańsk - Warsaw - Brno / Bratislava - Vienna, via Katowice). In this area two main motoways: Lviv - Krakow - Katowice - Wroclaw - Zgorzelec (A4) and Gdańsk - Bratislava (A1), have one of the largest junctions in Europe. The northern part of the province is also intersected by TEN-T corridor connecting Kiev (through Lublin - Kielce - Czestochowa - Opole) with Dresden and Prague (through Kudowa). The basic element of the region's traffic infrastructure is DTŚ – connecting the centres of the largest cities in the agglomeration.

VISION AND MISSION OF THE CLUSTER FOR THE YEAR 2014

Recognizing the importance of the transport, freight forwarding and logistics in Silesia Metropolis for the development of its economy, the founders of the Cluster agree to cooperate to create a strategic intermodal logistics hub in the European logistics area.

The mission is to promote the potential of the cluster for domestic and foreign investors, supporting the integration of cluster participants in development and implementation of investment and business projects and strive for continuous development of the competence in implementation of the latest techniques and methods in logistics.

The vision for the cluster is to create a logistics hub as a setting of integrated, intermodal, recognizable throughout the European Union the entities, basing on the endogenous potential of the region.

In order to achieve this vision, the strategy for the cluster is focused on building a stable foundation between the members of the cluster.

Over the next three years, it is necessary to:

  • Position Metropolis Silesia on the international map of nodes and logistics centres;
  • Strengthening cooperation between the TSL sector companies in the process of attracting new investors;
  • Establish new forms of cooperation in the framework of their investment projects;
  • Develop competence in the TSL sector staff for proficient use of the latest market solutions.

SLC activity is conducted in Silesia. Partners, having its registered offices outside the region (Germany, Warsaw) operate either through branches or representative offices.

According to the decisions of Founders of the Cluster, the role of Coordinator (for the first three years) will be given to the Upper Silesian Agency for Entrepreneurship and Development in Gliwice.

Working group meetings, plenary sessions, seminars and industry conferences will be held at the Centre for Education and Business "Nowe Gliwice" located at ul. Bojkowska 37, in the conference centre. The conference centre is fully equipped with multimedia hardware and provides all the facilities for simultaneous translation services.

Upper Silesian Agency for Entrepreneurship and Development made available for the Office of the Coordinator two rooms: 19.94 m2 and, when necessary, a small conference room located in the building at ul. Wincentego Pola 16 in Gliwice.

If needed (for the purposes of seminars, trainings and conferences) larger workshop facilities (20 or 30 persons) and conference rooms (3x 78 or 1x268 or 1x 230 persons) located in the Centre for Education and Business "Nowe Gliwice" may be provided.

All the office rooms are fully equipped with office furniture (tables, chairs), whiteboards, flipcharts, Internet access (Wi-Fi). The conference rooms (auditoria) are equipped with HD projectors, sound system, simultaneous translation system, and access to the Internet (wired and wireless). One of the conference rooms (78 people) is adapted for use with notebook PCs - additional power plugs are provided in each sitting place. Within the "Nowe Gliwice" centre there is a canteen, a photocopy facility. Both locations are connected with the city centre (bus) and have a sufficient parking facilities.
